Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Kodu Game Lab! Kodu lets students create games via a simple visual programming language. Kodu is used to teach creativity, problem solving, storytelling, as well as programming.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Computer Science and coding help nurture problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: This week you will complete Kodu Tutorials and give feedback as instructed!

Kodu Game Lab: Skyscraper Panic!
Today you will work on the Kodu Skyscraper Panic Project!
I will show you step by step how to create the project. Please follow along.
If you get ahead, please wait to ask questions!
Use YOUR FIRST NAME and LAST INITIAL!

Click the "Keep me signed in when Kodu exits" button!

SEPARATE YOUR SCREENS TO VIEW BOTH SCREENS AT THE SAME TIME!
TABS SHOULD NOW BE SIDE BY SIDE!
SELECT ONE TAB AND PRESS WINDOWS + LEFT ARROW
SELECT THE OTHER TAB AND PRESS WINDOWS + RIGHT ARROW
REMEMBER YOU WILL BE SAVING YOUR PROJECT!

Select SKYSCRAPER (this is the file you begun already!)
Plain Path:

Select the PATH TOOL

Decide where you would like to start your path (we will start on top of a building!)
RIGHT CLICK to chose the TYPE of path you want to use
Today we are selecting
ADD PLAIN PATH
MAKE A PATH...
Left click on the TOP OF A BUILDING and the first node (looks like a sphere) pops up
When making a path, use short steps between nodes...this will help with turning
You can create the path inside AND/OR outside of the terrain! (Glass walls follow the path)
Make the ends connect!
RIGHT CLICK on the last node to END the path
RAISE THE ENTIRE PATH
Hover over one node and hold the SHIFT KEY on your keyboard
All of the nodes should be glowing
Right click to CHANGE HEIGHT!
Raise the path so its well above the city (see left)
Orbit your view to see how far above you are
NOTE: this path will NOT be seen when PLAYING the game!
Change it to the BLUE path

Hover over one node of your path
Notice the color (see the line of color icons on the top of the screen)

This is important for programming
You can change the color by using your ARROW KEYS on your keyboard!
Change it to the BLUE path
ADD AN OBJECT TO FOLLOW THE PATH....
Select the OBJECT Tool.
Click on the top of a building
Click the ROBOTS Group
Add a BALLOON!
RIGHT CLICK the balloon to Change Height
Bring the height up to match the path
PROGRAMMING THE BALLOON TO FOLLOW THE PATH...
Select the OBJECT TOOL
Right click the Balloon
Select PROGRAM
WHEN:
Because the Balloon will be roaming on its own (with no human controlling it), there’s no need to program the WHEN box.
DO: (LINE 1):
Click the + next to DO
Select MOVE
Click the + next to MOVE
Select ON PATH
Click the + next to On Path
Select PATH COLORS
Select the Path color you chose
TIP: if you wanted more than one object randomly following a path you would program the object to follow THAT color path!
AT THIS POINT...

In order to see this work we need to change Kodu's point of view back! (If you did not already do this!)
Select the OBJECT TOOL
Right click the Kodu
Select PROGRAM
DO: (LINE 2):
Right click to cut tile
This will remove the point of view!
ESCAPE
PLAY
Press the ESC key (Escape) key on your keyboard to return to the game. It’s time to test out your programming skills!
Press the Play button (it’s the triangle to the right of the House icon on the toolbar) and take Kodu for a spin. Use the ARROW keys to drive him around on the screen.

You will be asked to play your game as it is currently (with KODU and SAUCER programmed, additional changes made...YOU MUST BE ABLE TO TELL ME WHAT YOU HAVE ADDED)!
