Lessons have been assigned to them based on their diagnostic test results both in Math and Reading. Within each lesson are brain break games. The district is pushing a goal of 45 minutes per week on Online Lessons in ELA and 45 minutes per week in Math to close the gaps found in the diagnostic. Math and ELA are providing some of that time during the week, but not all.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Website development!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Web design is one of the jobs that will continue to be in demand
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will build your very own website and answer questions about its completion!
You should see your name at the top
And if your hover over the Initials on the top right you should see your @gastonms.com account pop up!
If it has your gmail, you are in the WRONG account!
Click the circle on the TOP RIGHT
Click on your gastonms.com account or
Scroll down and select Add Another Account and sign in
You MUST use your gastonms.com account to get credit!
(Make sure you are NOT using your gmail account!)
On the top right you should see NINE dots by your initials is a "waffle"
A waffle in tech terms is a menu to launch the Google Apps
Click on it!
Here are all of the Google apps that you have access to :)
When you click on the waffle look for Sites...scroll down if you need to.
Click on Sites to open Google Sites!
A new tab should open, you will now be in Google Sites
TIP! Once you are in Google Sites, click the bookmark STAR to create a bookmark for Google Sites!
You will notice we haven't built any sites yet...yet!
At the top there is a template gallery with different layouts etc. But we will start with a blank site!
Click on Blank + at the top left to create a new site!
When you first start, Google wants you to "tour"...feel free to click NEXT and look at what it shows you!
If not, Click SKIP THIS TOUR
This website was created in Google Sites! It has hundreds of webpages.
(Don't worry you'll learn about that soon!)
Follow along in class or see complete instructions below!
Notice when you change the document's name the header on the left changes as well!
So the site is blank but the first thing we need to do is name the "document"
Click on the top left where it reads "Untitled Site"
Name it with YOUR:
First Name Last Name Website
Example: "Sarah Garcia's Website"
Click on the white area or press ENTER on the keyboard
Click where it reads "Your page title"
Type something like:
Welcome to my website!
On the right and left are "handles" we can pull to expand the text box
Click on the light gray area to the right or left or press ENTER on the keyboard to deselect
At the top right are Action Buttons.
Some are very useful
Some cannot be used yet!
Large Screen:

Phone:
Since we have a title, let's look at our website so far!
On the top right, Click the PREVIEW button
This is how your website would look if it was LIVE
On the bottom, click on the different icons for Large Screen, Tablet and Phone!
As you build your website, it is a good idea to check each of these previews to make sure the look is what you want!
Click the X to go back to EDIT mode
When you hover over the header a box will display on the bottom left corner of the header
Click Header Type
It defaults to Banner, but you can choose from Cover, Large Banner, Banner, or Title Only
We are going to leave it as Banner for now
When you hover over the header a box will display on the bottom left corner of the header

If you hover your mouse at the very bottom of the webpage a dialog box "Footer" should show
Click + Add Footer
Footers give the viewer a place to stop scrolling. Without a footer the page just goes on or doesn't look complete!
In the footer, you will normally see information like an address
Let's add the schools address
RUTHERFORD B. GASTON MIDDLE SCHOOL
1100 E CHURCH AVENUE
FRESNO, CALIFORNIA 93706
559 457-3400
TIP! Type the address all on ONE line giving extra spaces between the name and address etc
You can change the font, size and alignment here also!
Try a Bold, Sans serif font (Lato) 8pt and Center Align
Add a photo (or color)
On the left are 3 icons:
Section Colors, Duplicate Section and Trash
Click the Section Colors Icon and select IMAGE>Select Image to add a photo
Just like with your header, you can search for a photo
Typically the Header and Footer should match
Search for an image (Just like before)
Select the image you want to use
Click Select
To EXIT the footer, click in the Gray area above it
Each time you make a change, Google SAVES your website!
Now that we have a Header and a Footer we need some stuff in the middle!
On the right is our Properties Panels
There are 3: Insert, Pages and Themes
Make sure INSERT is clicked
The first part of the insert panel has singular insert items...
Text Box: Inserts a box to add text
Images: Uploads Images (Like how we did the header)
Embed: Embeds code (We will discuss this later)
Drive: Is a direct link to your Google Drive (This we can discuss later also)
Stop! We are going to use what's next!
The next part of the insert panel is Content Blocks (formerly called Layouts)
Content blocks contain placeholders for both images and text!
Click on the first Content Block on the left
A placeholder should now be shown for a photo, title and body text to your web page!

Type "About Me"
Open the "About Me" MicroSoft Word document we created!
Open OneDrive
Click on Intro Tech folder
Open the About Me doc
Select All (Ctrl + A)
COPY THE TEXT (Ctrl + C)
Back on your Google Site...
Click the SMALL text that reads:
Click to edit text
PASTE (Ctrl + V) the text you copied from the About Me Word document!
Click the + in the photo placeholder
Select "Select Image"
In the pop up, click GOOGLE IMAGES
Just like with the Header and Footer, Search for an image that is represented in your About me
Click on a photo you want to use to select it (you should see a thin, blue line around it)
Click INSERT
Example: Search Fresno, California since we live in Fresno!
On the LEFT (Insert Panel) click IMAGES
Click "Select"
In the pop up, click GOOGLE IMAGES
Again, search for an image that is represented in your About me
Click on a photo you want to use to select it (you should check mark on the top left)

The image I just added isn't near the other!
Google Sites places items in ROWS.
To MOVE the photo, Click and drag it up towards the other photo until you see a blue line underneath the first photo
When you see the blue line...Let go!
Google sites will align the photos and resize it!
If it looks weird or you would like to make it larger, Double Left Click the image and move the slider!
Between Rows, sometimes we need to place a divider
On the Insert Panel, scroll down to DIVIDER
Click on it to add one
These as well as rows can be moved by hovering over the row and dragging up or down!
Again on the Insert Panel, scroll down to MAP
Click on it
In the Enter a location box, type Fresno, CA
A map of Fresno should appear and a pin will drop
Click Select
Note: We do NOT want to add our home address...Remember that is PERSONAL information!
After the map is placed, click and drag one of the handles to the right so the map fits the width of the page.
Let go!
